Softball Rides A Five-Game Win Streak To Florida Tech

Sharks Travel To Melbourne, Fla. For Midweek Conference Series

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University softball team (22-11, 4-5 SSC) will look to fight off bad weather as well as the Florida Tech Panthers (15-15, 0-6 SSC) in a midweek series, March 29-30, in Melbourne, Fla.

The first game of the series is scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 at 1 p.m. The teams will conclude with a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 30 at 1 p.m., despite a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in the forecast.

The Sharks are riding a five-game win streak into the SSC matchup, including a sweep over Eckerd this past weekend.

Senior Lexi Sarradet (Miami, Fla.) set a new career-high in strikeouts as she recorded 14 K’s in a complete game shutout. The righty earned Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week for her performance.

Senior Devin Higginbotham (Palatka, Fla.) and sophomore Laura Saladrigas (Hollywood, Fla.) combined for NSU’s first no-hitter of the season to close out the series.

Overall, the Sharks’ pitching staff did not give up an earned run throughout the weekend.

NSU batted a monstrous .394 with four doubles and four triples, while outscoring the Tritons 23-2.

Junior Katie Kelton (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) seemed unstoppable as she finished the series 7-for-9 with a .778 batting average and a 1.333 slugging percentage, while notching SSC Player of the Week.

Brittany Phillips (Sr., Seminole, Fla.) earned a .500 batting average while freshman Gina Bondarenko (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) (.444) and senior Rachel Talenfeld (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) (.429) batted in the .400’s.

Talenfeld tied NSU’s all-time record with Sharks’ hall of famer Kim Easton at 94 walks with two in the last game against Eckerd.
